In the beginning of COVID I thought ”Okay – I can do this”. Staying home, washing my hands often, washing my fresh produce, sanitizing everything a lot. The covid experience was new and I was willing to do whatever I had to in order to keep myself and other’s safe. Being a Snowbird I even bit the bullet and came back to Canada from the USA early because the Government requested their residents come home. I didn’t whine, I didn’t complain, I just did it because it was the right thing to do !!
OKAY – here we are six months later and now this COVID is getting old, tiring, and inconvenient. It is robbing me of the joy of freedom to come and go, shop, fellowship with my friends, eat out at a fine restaurant. Do you hear a whine there? If you do – yup – you’re right ! I’m not liking this any better than anyone else.
As a GRIEF COACH this morning during my time of reflection I compared COVID and GRIEF and find them both remarkably alike.
COVID and GRIEF take too long to overcome. With COVID we have the hope of a vaccine to terminate the threat of the virus. With Grief there is no magic vaccine ever to eliminate the pain, sadness and sorrow of loss………..so what’s the answer?? Like Covid, Grief takes a renewing of the mind and restoring of the self to endure for the long haul.
For ME the belief in a Higher Power has been my saving grace. With Grief I know I’m never alone and with COVID I put my faith to use the same way !
Laminations 3: 22-23 in the Amplified Bible reads;
22; It is because of the Lord’s Mercy and loving kindness that WE ARE NOT consumed, because His (tender) compassions fail not.
23: They are NEW EVERY MORNING; great and abundant is your stability and faithfulness.
In accepting and knowing at a deep level and a conscious level that God gifts me with His kindness and compassion NEW every morning – I wake up with a smile and insist; ”this is the day the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.” His power grants me abundant stability and faithfulness knowing He’s got this. Why would I waste my energy worrying when He’s got me covered. Psm 91 ”He commands his Angels concerning me to guard me in ALL my ways.”
Mark these two scriptures down in a special place where you can re-read them daily and be restored NEW every morning with the power that only faith in God can provide.
YES…….it’s human to need reaffirming !! It’s OK to need it. God has created us to need it and Him. After all what good Father wouldn’t want to reaffirm his child every day !!! No matter the trails of life, and there will always be trials, we can rest assured His word is true and if He says He’s got us covered it becomes our responsibility to believe it with all our hearts. That’s how peace comes to abide within us.
